In my personal devotions, I am reading through Colossians. Chapter 1 begins with a heavy dose of theology and doctrine discussing the person and the work of Jesus and the position of believers. To the uninitiated, this can be a bit daunting. One of the things that sticks out to me is this one verse:
“…all things were created through Him and for Him.” – Colossians 1:16
This short phrase has huge implications: If all things were created through Jesus and for Jesus — that includes you and me.
I was created THROUGH Jesus and FOR Jesus.
You were created THROUGH Jesus and FOR Jesus.
We are created — and sustained THROUGH Jesus.
Paul – quoting the poets of his day, said “…in Him we live and move and have our being…” (Acts 17:28).
Jesus sustains my life, animates my life today.
He has willed me to live today.
If my heart still beats — its in Him that I live and move and have my being.
This perspective should change the way we live.
We were created FOR Jesus.
I Corinthians 6:19-20 puts its this way:
“You are NOT your own… for you were bought with a price, therefore, glorify God in your body and in your spirit which are God’s.”
You and I were created for a reason, and are alive today for a reason.
Our lives are not our own. We were created FOR Jesus.
What are you going to do today?
What has Jesus put you on earth for today?
Before you run out and try to change the world —
Remember this: Jesus has created you for Himself.
Sometimes we are called to DO things for Jesus.
And sometimes we are just called to be WITH Jesus.
Since you belong to Jesus, ask Him what He would have you to do,
or how you can be with Him today.
