You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you
have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. John 5:39
There is an idolatry sometimes in our hearts that
needs to be addressed.
How we need to apply the scriptures to our lives!
How we need men and women who can teach the Word
of God with power, authority, accuracy and application!
But it’s not in becoming better or applying things
personally that we have life —Christ is our life.
You see — the idolatry is this:
I think that everytime I approach the Word of God —
God needs to speak to me about me.
Often times He will.
About His love for me.
About putting off the things of the flesh,
and putting on the things of the Spirit.
But I think that often times — when we approach a
section of scripture that doesn’t seem big on personal application —
and feel like moving on, we’ve missed it.
If you gloss over things like Doctrine — you miss worship.
Folks — the Bible is about Jesus.
It’s not about me.
Oh, it has much to say to me.
But it’s about Jesus.
Hebrews 1:1-3 says:
God…in these last days spoken to us by His Son,
whom He has appointed heir of all things,
through whom also He made the worlds
who being the brightness of His glory
and the express image of His person
This is pretty weighty stuff.
Does this help me at work?
Does this help my marriage?
In a roundabout way — yes.
But immediately, maybe not.
But, when I meditate on it — it will turn my attention
to worship Jesus Christ, the living Word.
When you do your personal devotions as a hunt
for personal application only, you will be disappointed.
Because alot of the Bible isn’t about personal application —
it’s about worship.
Here’s the key though.
Here’s the roundabout effect.
Worship alters you.
Being in the presence of the Lord —
you will be changed.
It will affect your marriage.
It will affect your witness to the World.
As we worship, as we mediate on the Lord —
so often, He speaks.
Let God be God.
Let Him testify about Himself to you.
And you will be blessed, empowered and changed.
