linusFor I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ,  for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes…
Romans 1:16

On Saturday, we went to Knott’s Berry Farm because we had free tickets. It was extremely packed, so we watched a couple of shows, ate lunch and got out of there.

One of the shows we watched was “Snoopy’s
Cool Christmas” .

It was pretty impressive, actually really impressive. But I couldn’t help but be struck by the emptiness of Christmas without Christ.
It’s like Thanksgiving.
It always baffles me that we have an entire holiday dedicated to being thankful, but it’s a
secular thankfullness.

It’s thankfullness without
an object. You can’t be thankful in general.
Thanks requires a person to whom which honor is due.

Christmas without Christ doesn’t make any sense either.

It’s Joy without an object.
It’s peace without a peacemaker.
Goodwill without God.

Don’t get me wrong. I like a to see a giant Snoopy in a santa suit dancing around on ice skates as much as anyone. I even fought the urge to tap my toes to Jingle Bell Rock.

But it’s empty.

And then, in the midst of all the Snoopy Christmas show — one of the peanuts characters said:
“What’s Christmas all about anyways?”

And Linus, (I think) says, “I know” and then he quotes this scripture in the middle of the show:

Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid.

Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people.

For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

And this [will be] the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:

“Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”  (Luke 2:8-14)

And for a few moments — there was power in the pre-recorded voice of a person wearing a giant plastic cartoon head.

It was amazing. I almost cried.

Why? Because Linus gave the gospel. And there is always power in the gospel.

It amazes me.

Speak about Jesus, share this old message again, and there is power.
Everytime.

Even at Snoopy’s Cool Christmas.

This is pretty encouraging when you think about it.
If someone dressed up like Linus can stand there and gesture while a pre-recorded voice quotes a
scripture verse — and there is power, how much more so with us?

I dare you, and me — to share the gospel and see what the Lord will do this week.

If Linus can do it, so can I.
