…these words which I command you today shall be in your heart.
“You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. (Deut 6:6-7)
This is Gemma, my beautiful, nutty, soon to be five year old girl.
Just about every day we have breakfast together, and we share the scriptures. On a work day, we eat and go over our memory verse. So far, she has learned 1 Thess 5:18, Eph 4:32, and Deut 6:5.
But on a day off, like today, when we’ve got a little bit more time — we study together.
We read her Children’s Bible, and then I shared a story with her from 1 Samuel, where I am currently doing my own reading.
I have been really blessed to have the time to do this with her. I think I had time before, but I wasn’t very faithful to do it. But it’s neat. You can bring the Lord into literally every part of the day if you choose.
Gemma is a princess fanatic! She has a set of little plastic Disney princesses. She wanted me to play with her. So we were having the princesses all take turns saying Bible verses in high squeaky royal voices.
By no means is all our time this Flanderesque. (C’mon. You know you used to watch the Simpsons and laugh at their Christian neighbors).
As I said, Gemma is a nut. And she probably get
s it from me.
But if we can turn the focus to Jesus even just a little — it’s a wonderful opportunity. And by no means cheesy.
Why don’t I remember to do this in other areas of my life? I do. But I want to do it more faithfully.
Car time. While working on mundane paperwork. While cutting the grass.
While washing dishes.
That we would talk about our Lord constantly.
The more we talk about him, the more we think on Him — the more we will experience Him.
