Forever, O Lord,
Your word is settled in heaven.
Psalm 119:89
What’s the first thing you think about when you wake up in the morning?
For me — it’s usually some song that starts playing in my mind.
But yesterday, the first thought that pops into my head is this:
“Your going to be killed today”.
Where did that come from?
Hell, I suspect.
Well, that was yesterday, and I’m still here.
But so often, we can be unsettled by something.
The devil will whisper lies and fears into our ears.
Or circumstances stack up.
Or there is something unresolved, and it seems it will never be.
Whatever it may be — sometimes life can be unsettling.
But God.
His word is settled in heaven.
He’s not anxious.
He’s not worried.
He’s not fearful.
He’s not wondering.
He’s not unsettled.
His thoughts, his plans for you, His word and His promises to you — are settled.
That’s the beautiful thing about God.
He is other.
He isn’t like us at all.
And because He is above us in every way — in His nature,
In His character,
He is worthy to be worshipped.
And if things are settled in heaven,
They can be settled in my heart.
I don’t know about you — but when I consider who the Lord is,
and how good He is to me — all I can do is worship.
I’ll leave you with another verse from I Peter:
But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle [you]. (I Peter 5:10)
