For the first time in a couple of years, I have time to read.
Right now, I am reading two books:
To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee and
The Attributes of God (Vol 1) by A.W. Tozer.
Both good. I’ve read To Kill a Mockingbird a few times, and it’s an enjoyable easy read.
A.W. Tozer is one of a few Christian writers who has anything of worth to say.
As a general rule of thumb, I don’t read Christian books written by people who are currently alive.
Dead guys always seem to have more things of worth to say.
I ran across a line last night though from Harper Lee– that has some great spiritual application.
If your not familiar with the story — the father Atticus is a defense attorney for a poor man who has been accused of rape, and has the misfortune of being black in 1935 Alabama. It’s an impossible case because of the racism of the townspeople — but Atticus boldy defends his client.
A neighbor woman, explains it to Atticus’ children this way:
“Were so rarely called on to be Christians, but when we are, we’ve got men like Atticus to go for us”.
Ponder that one.
