This morning I was reading Psalm 42(in the NLT).
I love the Psalms, it’s one of my favorite places to go.
I had a great teacher in Jr. High who told me
that he read a Psalm every day.
Psalms so often are a catylst for praise.
Extoling and magnifying the Lord.
Often times I will read a portion of the Psalms
as I begin to pray in the mornings.
Psalm 42 though, seems to sum up things for me quite nicely:
(v1) As the deer longs for streams of water,
so I long for you, O God.
(v2) I thirst for God, the living God.
When can I go and stand before Him?
(v4) My heart is breaking as I remember how it used to be:
I walked among the crowds of worshipers,
leading a great procession to the house of God,
singing for joy and giving thanks
amid the sound of great celebration!
(v8) But each day the Lord pours His unfailing love upon me,
and through each night I sing His songs,
praying to God who gives me life.
I wrote about Suffering and how it leads us to a deeper
knowledge of God’s nature.
But the thing about our God is this:
Whether in Joy or in Sorrow, He is good.
Psalm 25:10 puts it this way:
All the paths of the LORD [are] mercy and truth
unto such as keep his covenant and his testimonies.
I had a little theology lesson with my daughter
out on the hammock last night.
She was talking about how we would behave
if God were mean and bad.
And I explained to her God’s nature — He is always good.
He cannot be evil. He cannot be bad.
God cannot wake up on the wrong side of the bed.
He doesn’t mutter things under his breath.
God IS good.
That’s his nature.
And all of his paths are loving, merciful and full of goodness and truth.
Wherever the Lord takes you — it should testify of His goodness,
And stir your heart to praise.
