sit. stay.

Two very important words for dog owners.
Two words we can learn as well.

The Lord sometimes calls us to great things.

Personally — I am aware of some things that God is calling me and my family to in the future.
In the not so far off future, and in the more distant future.

And while it might be exciting to ponder the future — practically, I am called to live for Christ today, wherever I am, whatever I am doing.

In Judges 13, the Angel of the Lord, appeared to Manoah’s wife — telling her that a son — Samson would be born one day, and that he was to be a Nazirite. She was to live very carefully in the same fashion during the pregnancy.

She told her husband, and he prayed that the Angel of the Lord would return.

It happens just as he prayed, and the Angel of the Lord returns.

Manoah asks the question:

What will be the boy’s rule of life, and his work?”
So the Angel of the LORD said to Manoah, “Of all that I said to the woman let her be careful. She may not eat anything that comes from the vine, nor may she drink wine or similar drink, nor eat anything unclean. All that I commanded her let her observe.” (Judges 13:12-14)

 (Now for the paraphrase)

“This boy sounds great!
What’s his future going to look like?
Give me the details.” Manoah said.

“Make sure your wife is careful to live as a Nazirite while she is pregnant.”

Quite Possibly, the Lord’s suggestion to me and to you today is this:

Rather than dwell on the details of the future — be faithful to what I have called you to today, and prepare yourself very carefully.

What is it that you are called to prepare today for tomorrow?

Does faithfulness need to be cultivated (Ps 37)?
Is it perseverence?

Grace?

So sit.

Stay.

Be pure.

Love Jesus passionately today.

Obey His Word.

And tomorrow he just might take you somewhere new.
