stars

tonight — long after our daughter was in bed, and after spending some time in prayer together — my wife and I went outside, and spent some time staring at the sky.

Where we live is pretty rural, so we have a pretty good view of the night sky.

Psalm 8  says:

O LORD our Lord, how excellent [is] thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens…When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? (V1,3-4)

Could it be, that we don’t consider the heavens, the work of His fingers, the moon and the stars which He has ordained often enough?

Honestly — I don’t remember the last time I really did.

Two things that happen when we pause to consider the wonders that God has made:

1) We realize his glory. (v1)

Romans 1:20 says
For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, [even] his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

God’s creation speaks of Himself. It testifies of the creator.
And whenever there is a testimony of the creator — it creates worship in the heart of a believer.

The next time you feel like you have no reason to praise the Lord — take a look at creation.
It should make your heart sing of the glory of God.

And the second thing considering creation ought to do..

2) We realize our unique relationship to God. (v4)

My wife pointed this one out.
The universe is so big, yet it fits in the palm of His hand.
And we are much smaller than the universe — and He sent Jesus to come to our level and die for us.

What kind of God is this?

Who am I that He is mindful of me?

If you haven’t done it in awhile — go look around at God’s creation.

Pause.

Consider.

Worship.
